The issues aren’t necessarily black and white, and there’s a variety of perspectives and nuances that need to be taken into account in order to make true change.

ABOUT

I’m a rising senior at South Forsyth High School, and am extremely passionate about Public Health. I can vividly remember the time I was four years old, my eyes filled with wonder as I watched Cuba Gooding Jr. play the role of Ben Carson, a prominent neurologist, in the movie Gifted Hands. Since then, I gained an extreme longing for making change through healthcare. In middle school, I picked up public speaking and debate, and transformed from a shy, introverted child to someone who could eloquently articulate their opinions and ideas in every aspect of life.

One particular topic that stuck with me, though, was one of the topics for a debate tournament at Harvard, regarding price controls in the pharmaceutical industry. As I delved deeper and deeper into more and more scholarly articles, I was shocked to learn the issues with health access and pharmaceutical price gouging in the United States. And soon I realized that the way for me to make change wasn’t necessarily through being a doctor — it would be through influencing policy through public health, which is my current dream.

About The Blog

If you wan’t to read more about the purpose of the blog, you can go read more in my introductory post, but it’s important to understand that while we live in a world with stark inequality and injustices, we also live in some of the most polarizing times of our country, where ideas and thoughts are often expected to ascribe to a certain political ideology. The issue with this frame of thinking is that it superimposes a false dichotomy unto a variety of multifaceted issues. To deconstruct the current polarization, the solution is simple — to talk. That’s what this blog is about — its about posting your ideas in a manner in which we as a community can debate them. Its also about understanding that issues aren’t necessarily black and white, and there’s a variety of perspectives and nuances that need to be taken into account in order to make true change.
